Adopt-A-Striker

Fight for our future!

The UCP government wants to starve out striking education support workers.

We can’t let them get away with it!

That’s why we’re asking union locals from across the province, and across the country, to “adopt” a striker.

Individuals can make contributions, too!

Education support workers only get paid ten months out of the year. During that time, their average take-home pay is only about $650 per week.

Picket pay for strikers is only about $350 per week.

We need to help bridge that gap!

Without education support workers, our schools can’t run and our kids won’t thrive!

These brave workers are standing up for fair wages and a quality education system!

In order to stay strong on the picket line — and keep paying their rent and putting food on their tables — they need our help!

We’re asking other unions to commit to topping up the picket pay of striking education workers so they can remain on strike long enough to get a fair deal.

$300 will top up wages for one striker for one week. $1200 will top up wages for one striker for a month.

How many striking workers will your local adopt?

  • Yes, we’ll adopt one striker for one week ($300)
  • Yes, we’ll adopt one for one month ($1200)
  • Yes, we’ll adopt multiple strikers for multiple weeks (whatever you can afford!)

Donations from individual supporters would also be greatly appreciated!

If the provincial government is successful in their shameful strategy of starving these workers out, who will be next?

Adopt-a-Striker NOW to make sure the UCP fails in their strategy of targeting and dividing our most vulnerable and underpaid colleagues.

One day longer, one day stronger!

The funds raised through the Adopt-a-Striker action will go to locals across the province where members have been on strike for at least a month.

More locals will be added to the list if their strikes reach the one-month mark.

Locals, not the AFL, will decide how to distribute the money amongst their members. Money will go to strikers in the greatest need.

The goal is to help get an extra $300 a week to the strikers that need it most – but reaching that goal will depend on the number of donations received, and the number of strikers in the greatest need.

The AFL will publish a list of unions and individuals who have made contributions and how many strikers they have “adopted.”

Thank you to you and your union for adopting a striker (or multiple strikers)!

This is what solidarity looks like!
