Tell the UCP: You Broke It, You Buy It!

Thanks to the UCP, the Green Line is cancelled and more than $2 billion Calgary taxpayer dollars are out the window. Sign the petition now to demand that the UCP pay back the City of Calgary.

On August 1st, UCP Transportation Minister Devin Dereeshen told the CBC that his $1.53 billion promise to help fund the largest infrastructure project in Calgary’s history was “100-per-cent” secure. But just a month later, the UCP pulled provincial funding, killing the project.

Why? It’s a selfish political game to take a jab at NDP leader Naheed Nenshi. But while the UCP wastes taxpayer money picking petty fights, it’s residents of Calgary who are really losing out.

The Green Line would have:

  • made Calgary more accessible
  • created thousands of new jobs
  • encouraged residential and commercial development
  • attracted new businesses and economic investment

A cancelled Green Line means Calgary’s public transit system can’t possibly meet the needs of our city, let alone the 100,000 more Calgarians we’re expected to welcome by 2029. It also means that contractors will walk away from the project, and the $2.1 billion taxpayer dollars that the City of Calgary has already invested in the project are gone to waste.

Tell the UCP to quit playing political games and repay what they’ve cost the City of Calgary.
