Research shows economic benefits of plan to increase minimum wage to $15 an hour
Edmonton — The 15 is Fair campaign is releasing research that shows Alberta’s economy will reap major gains if the government follows through on plans to increase the minimum wage.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the campaign released economic research showing that Alberta’s economy would gain $900 million over three years from increased household spending, and from productivity gains.
“Higher minimum wages help the economy grow by putting more money in the pockets of low-wage workers who, in turn, spend that money in the local economy,” Alberta Federation of Labour president Gil McGowan said.
The full research report will be released at the press conference.
